Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca or Rainbow Mountain, is a geological wonder that is more than 5,000 meters above sea level in the Cusco region. It has natural bands of bright colors like red, turquoise, yellow, green, and lilac.
The minerals that have settled here over millions of years have given this magical Andean landscape its many colors. Iron oxide makes reddish colors, copper sulfate makes green, and other mineral compounds make the mountain look like a natural work of art by adding violet, ochre, and gold colors.
The road to Vinicunca is hard because of its high elevation, but the views are unlike any other: valleys of tall grass, herds of alpacas, and huge snow-capped mountains like Ausangate, the Apu that protects the area. Depending on where you start, the climb can take anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours from the town of Pitumarca or Cusipata.

- 4:30 a.m. – Pick up at the hotel: We pick you up at your hotel in Cusco early in the morning in a private or group tourist vehicle. Start your adventure south of the Sacred Valley, where you'll see beautiful Andean scenery along the way.
- 7:00 a.m. Breakfast in Cusipata: Stop in Cusipata for a big breakfast from the Andes. You can get used to the altitude and get ready for the climb here.
- 8:00 a.m. – Get to the start of the hike: After breakfast, we take a bus to the starting point (Chillihuani or Pampachiri). Our guide will give you important advice.
- 8:30 a.m. – Walk to Vinicunca: Start the hike, which will take about 1.5 to 2 hours, through the high Andean landscape, where you will see llamas, alpacas, and amazing views of snow-capped mountains like Ausangate. The highest point is 5,036 m above sea level.
- 10:30 a.m. – Get to Rainbow Mountain: The best moment! Enjoy wide views and time to take pictures. Our guide will explain about the area's geology and culture.
- 11:30 a.m. – return to the starting point: Start the 1 hour and 30 minute descent to the parking lot where your ride will be waiting.
- 2:00 p.m. – Lunch buffet in Cusipata: Enjoy a buffet lunch with local and vegetarian options after the trek.
- 3:00 p.m. – Return to Cusco: We will take you back to Cusco in our own car or van.
